looking to choose a vendor with good recording
Jun 18th, 2009, 5:55pm

I want to put on webinars with 500 participants and speaker video for the purpose of lead generation.

I'd like the webinars to be partly canned and partly live, so that I can reuse our best content from the past and don't need my star performers to be on each webinar.  I will be fully transparent to the audience about which parts are recorded and which are live, so the previously discussed deception issue does not apply to me.  I envision playing back a recording of our talent doing a presentation, then switch to a live host (such as myself) who is less talented but available to answer questions.

I'm struggling with finding the recording feature.  I've found webinar services that allow recording to video, but a webinar isn't a video.  It is, for example, a slide presentation along side a video feed of the presenter.  When I'm playing it back, I want it to play back as a slide presentation with separate video of the presenter, not a video capture of both of them.

So far I've looked at WebEx, GoToWebinar, and DimDim.  WebEx looks like it has good recording technology, but it requires Windows in order to edit it.  GoToWebinar doesn't have presenter video and requires Windows to record.  My company dislikes Windows and uses Macs, so I'd prefer a Mac or cross-platform solution.

Any suggestions?

Thanks for setting up your blog and this forum!

David,

I have to tell you although I understand exactly what you are after, I haven't put that kind of an event myself. So I can't offer you firsthand opinions of the functionality from different vendors. This is an area where you will have to contact the vendor and ask for a demo of the specific feature. Nobody plays it up on their basic website.

Three vendors spring to mind right away that are worth checking. They seem to me to have the best chance of supporting your goals. Webcast Group is one (www.webcastgroup.com), IVT is another (www.ivtweb.com), and maybe ON24 (www.on24.com).

I'll keep my eyes open for other contenders. If you find a solution, please come back and give us an update on the forum so others can benefit from your experience!

Thanks,
