GoToMeetings vs. GoToWebinar
Apr 30th, 2009, 1:53pm

Hi!  My organization is somewhat (less than a year) new to hosting web conferences and has been doing very well with GoToMeeting.  I've been trying to get my head around the difference between GoToMeeting and GoToWebinar.  If anyone here uses both, can you give me some hints on when you use which application?

Thanks!

Donovan

GoToMeeting is for small impromptu meetings primarily. You are limited to 15 participants and can launch a meeting at anytime. There is no registration feature.

GoToWebinar is geared more towards larger planned events. With GoToWebinar you cannot launch a meeting immediately. Meetings have to be scheduled for the day after at the earliest. You are also supplied with a Registration service to use to pre-register participants. GoToWebinar can theoretically accommodate 1000 participants, but I have yet to attend a meeting over several hundred that has run well.

Functionally they both work pretty similarly as basically Screen sharing apps. Outside of the obvious differnece in audience capacity it really comes down to the registration form and the ability to hold immediate impromptu meetings. You have to pick one or the other but can't have both.

My company offers our QuickRegister package as a seperate add-on for any size meeting to allow for more freedom of choice while still allowing impromptu meetings in our QuickVisuals product.

Good luck,
